About Oklahoma City

Founded in a single day by the land run of April 22, 1889, Oklahoma City is the capital of the state of Oklahoma and the 30th largest city in the United States. Approximately 1.2 million people call the Oklahoma City metro area home. Its 620-square-mile area makes it the country's seventh largest city in terms of geographic area.

Located at the intersection of three major interstate highways (I-35, I-40 and I-44), since the early 20th century when it was a major stop on Route 66, Oklahoma City has literally been the "Crossroads of America", and yet, it holds the distinction of being the second largest city in the nation still in compliance with the Clean Air Act.
